Constitutional Government In Our Grasp

Columbia, MO - April 27, 2012 - As an alternate in the #1 spot for our county in Missouri, I went to our district convention, just in case there were some delegate no-shows.  What a chance to get to see the process!  I was seated, as some didn't show up.  The majority in the crowd were not Paul supporters, even though they claimed to want to drive our nation back to a constitutional government.  

In a room filled with Romney, Paul and, yes, Santorum people, all were saying their main goal was to oust the current president in the upcoming election.  They all want someone who to uphold the principles in our Constitution...at least that was their rhetoric!  Someone in the crowd mentioned their was only one man running who not only espoused those principles every day, and lived his talk, but he has been consistent throughout his political career; Ron Paul.

Not only does the newly released film, The Ron Paul Uprising, talk about his unswerving constitutional stand, it shows clips of Paul from as far back as 1988 talking about the ruin in which this country will one day find itself if it doesn't adhere to the limitations placed on our central (federal) government by our founding generation, a generation who knew the dangers of an out-of-control, massive government.

Under the heading "Reforming Government to Serve the People," Republicans state in their 2008 Party Platform they want to "Constrain the federal government to its legitimate constitutional functions," and empower people, while limiting government's involvement in their lives.  Their Platform states they will ultimately defeat the tax and spend mentality of Washington, D.C.  Republicans took control of the House in the 2010 election, and yet our deficit grew and our Federal operating budget is monstrous.  While Republicans are battling with Democrats over budget concerns, the debt ceiling has been raised three times since Obama took office, and is headed for its fourth.  AND, the only hopeful putting forth real spending cuts, Ron Paul, is not being taken seriously by the GOP.

"Our government is too large to sustain itself.  People know this.  It's time to take a cue from our founders and stop the madness," says film director, William Lewis.  "Trillions of dollars of debt are being laid at the feet of the US population, and we have no control, because our representatives, except for a handful, are not listening to us.  They're siding with big corporations at the behest of their lobbyists."

In another clip shown in The Ron Paul Uprising, Paul states his objectives, "My goal was to shrink the size of government, balance our budget, pay the bills, have sound money and live within our means and mind our own business..."  Those ideals reflect exactly the thoughts of our Founding Fathers as they pondered what was best for this country.

"The Ninth and Tenth Amendment are very clear.  I'm not sure what the federal government thinks our founders meant by 'The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people and The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.'  I'm not a lawyer, but I understand it perfectly!" states the film's associate producer, Gary Franchi.

The media, and the Republican Party, would have you believe Paul hasn't got a chance, but by understanding the process, Paul and his followers know the truth; he does.  Paul is gaining ground, as seen by his recent wins in Minnesota and Iowa.  If Romney goes into the Republican National Convention without the necessary number of delegates, the convention will not be sewn up.  Paul can still win the nomination.  Paul is having record turnouts at all his speaking engagements.  Romney, Santorum or Gingrich aren't bringing out those kinds of numbers.    

With the Whiteout Press posting an article on April 24, 2012 stating it does look like the GOP is headed for a brokered convention, Paul and his followers know now is not the time to throw in the towel.  It's time to gear up, press forward and help people realize just what he stands for and why a Paul Presidency will usher in exactly what Republicans, Democrats, and all third party supporters and independents say they want; a return to Constitutional government.  The road ahead will not be easy, but with someone in the White House who truly understands our Constitution and doesn't want to subvert it, it will surely help smooth out the ride!
