Saving Our Country From Despotic Government

Columbia, MO, May 4, 2012 - How many Republican and Democratic followers are claiming to support true freedom through our country's Constitution? Many, regardless of background, say they support our Constitution, thus our freedoms, but how many of those same people put stipulations on either the freedom of others or on the support they are willing to give? Do they really understand our rights, at all?
"I think when you defend freedom, you defend freedom of choice, and you can't be picking and choosing how people use those freedoms." Ron Paul
The 2008 Democratic Party Platform says they want to "restore our constitutional traditions and recover our nation's founding commitment to liberty under law." They rightfully say the former administration gave the people "a false choice" between security and liberty. Did they forget their presidential candidate, now our President, voted FOR those liberty-stripping bills?
The Republican Platform for 2008, in an effort to appease the TEA Party supporters (remember the ORIGINAL TEA party, anyone!?!), states it wants to "Constrain the federal government to its legitimate constitutional functions," and empower people, while limiting government's involvement in their lives. Romney, the present media, and GOP, "favorite" says he would have supported the NDAA, with its indefinite detention language, and, as governor, his state passed a healthcare bill that was the model for Obamacare!
The pressing question is, can we believe either party cares about our freedom? Maybe there's a better question. Is it time to replace the tired, status quo Dems and GOP with better, more constitutional, choices?
"We have legislators in this country who claim to be 'Constitutional Experts' yet they pass bill after bill proving one thing; they know how to subvert our Constitution," states Don't Tread On Me and Blood of Patriots director, William Lewis. "People need to wake up and realize their choices are getting more and more slim under the corrupt two-party system, and our country wasn't set up for party politics, anyway!"
Neither the media nor the general population takes the Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party or Independents seriously. They should. These groups continually bring up excellent questions about our government, make valid points about what has been lost over the years, and are bringing to the table a better understanding of true constitutionality. While the Democrats and Republicans claim they want to get back to our constitutional roots, nothing they do proves that. In fact, most of our representation from both parties say one thing and do the opposite.
"We have all heard our Congressmen, -women, and Justices say 'we have no idea what our Founding Father's meant by X, Y, or Z,' but we actually do. It's so incredibly frustrating," says Gary Franchi, producer and associate produce, respectively, of Don't Tread On Me and Blood of Patriots. "Knowledge is power and that is what we hope to accomplish with these two films...getting people to see that one, we do know what was intended and two, both major parties are suppressing we-the-people."
What are Lewis and Franchi talking about? Their films, Don't Tread On Me and Blood of Patriots look into the binding parts of our US Constitution, the Bill of Rights and Article 1 Section 8.
Don't Tread On Me focuses on the importance of understanding the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, specifically, and deals with the abuses of the commerce clause by our out-of-control, despotic government. The film looks into the Constitutional Militia and much more.
Blood of Patriots takes an in depth look at the entire Bill of Rights, delving into the debates and thoughts of our founding generation and citing Supreme Court cases involved in changing, or preserving, our future.
Haven't we learned our lessons from the oh-so-predictable major political parties? It's time to think outside the government-funded, public school thought box. Would our Founding Fathers recognize this country? Probably not, yet they fought and died for our right to live free from government intrusion at every turn in our lives. This country could be a beacon to the world, yet it is falling farther toward the very type of country from which our original political visionaries saved us. "In order to save this country, we have to first understand the vision," says Lewis. "We need to return, fully, to our Constitutional Republic roots, or this country will be unrecognizable to us, as well."
